International Symposium on Corrosion Control of Ships and Offshore Structures CCSOS-2018
2018-06-18 21:03:00

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing committee, we are very pleased to announce that International Symposium on Corrosion Control of Ships and Offshore Structures (CCSOS 2018) will be held in Qingdao, a beautiful coastal city of China on October 26th-27th, 2018.

Marine ships and offshore structures may suffer severe corrosion in the harsh environment, which affects the performance, service life and safety of ships and marine structures seriously. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop materials with high corrosion resistance and effective methods of corrosion prevention for ships and ocean engineering equipment and facilities.

This symposium aims to build a platform for scientists, scholars and engineers from research institutes, universities, shipbuilding and offshore industries to discuss and exchange research progresses and innovative technologies of marine corrosion control. Experts in China and abroad in this field are invited to attend the symposium and give presentations. We are sure the technical exchange and academic discussion will benefit all the participants.

Warmly welcome colleagues to attend this symposium.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the conference in Qingdao.

Abstract

Oil and gas equipment are being manufactured, stored and/or deployed or used in increasingly aggressive corrosive atmospheres due to an increase in atmospheric pollution. This is further aggravated by ever increasing complexity of the equipment and assemblies themselves, made more complicated by new environmental mandates in Europe coupled with a growing Green Movement, as well as fumigation requirements from countries such as Australia, for items going into ecologically sensitive areas. All have impacts on how equipment is made, stored and shipped. These issues leave the products/assets significantly more susceptible to corrosion, negatively impacting product performance, longevity and reliability.

The impact of all of these factors is being felt beyond just the industries initially targeted by the environmental legislation in Europe and China, since production facilities for manufacturing are now global in scope. Effective barrier packaging can improve this situation. Bell Labs developed a reactive barrier material, which is extruded into multi-layer structures, which has been shown to be effective at protecting against corrosion as well as protecting against static electricity. This material uses no volatiles and has an extremely low carbon footprint. The material is universal because it is available worldwide, and because it can be used easily, it can be easily re-sealed in the field, it is robust enough to be deployed in almost any environment, and it is environmentally friendly, with no volatiles, no oils and fully reusable and recyclable. The material has been used successfully by numerous oil and gas companies in upstream and downstream applications enabling them to eliminate oils, reducing carbon footprints and saving money. Case studies of how the material is used will be presented.

Graphical abstract or featured Figures.

A graphical abstract or some featured figures are recommended as a part of this detailed abstract. Authors should provide some images that clearly represent the work described in the submission.
